One thing that is very impressive about the MLS is the unpredictability that every season comes with. The fact that every season has had a new winner since the LA Galaxy won it back to back in the 2011 and 2012 season means that every team’s fans can dream of their side winning it this season, as all teams have an equal chance of winning the Cup.
Orlando City are yet to win the MLS Cup or Supporters Shield since they joined the league three seasons ago, what should be their most realistic target this season?
In truth, this season could be considered a fresh start for the Lions after losing key players like Kaka and Cyle Larin. The first concern of many of Orlando’s City’s fans would be how this team would cope with the loss of such important figures.
Kaka and Larin scored a combined 18 goals and provided 7 assists last season, now they have moved on to other things and teams.
Although we would expect coach Kreis to be focused on rebuilding the team, there is nothing bad in being ambitious about this season as well.
With the investment that has been done this past month, qualifying for the MLS playoffs should not be too much to ask, however, finishing further up the table will provide some positives to the fans.
We finished the 2017 Eastern conference table in 10th position out of 11 competitors, 11 points short of the final playoff spot. While there is still a considerable hurdle for us to face before making it into the top two for an automatic place in the final, we should at least be targeting one of the four playoff places on offer.
With a clean bill of health and several of our players living up to their potentials, this could be the year that the Lions’ get a
medal or an individual honor like the highest goal scorer.
