One big issue for Orlando City last season was conceding many goals while failing to score as much at the other end of the pitch.
The Lions finished last season 10th out of the 11 teams Eastern Conference table, although we are a new team to the league, we could have done better, and this season offers us more chances to do so.
With the likes of Kaka and Cyle Larin still on our side last season we still won just ten games all season, losing 15 and drawing 9 times. We netted just 39 goals and conceded 58 in the process.
Even great European sides like Liverpool are guilty of conceding too many goals, but they still manage to remain a top team both in their league and in the continent, how do they achieve that? - By outscoring your opponents.
There have been so many changes to the Lions' roster ahead of this new season, but there are real reasons to be optimistic that we can score more than we concede this season unlike the last time out, here is how I think we can do it:
Score goals from all areas of the pitch
Last season 23 of the 39 goals we netted were scored by just Kaka, Cyle Larin and Carlos Rivas, but these players have all left us, it is important for the team to start scoring from other players and positions on the pitch.
Dom Dwyer is the only player who scored up to 4 goals still in the team, but the goal scoring responsibilities should now be shared with other new signings.
If players like Justin Meram who netted 13 times last season from his preferred left attacking position is given the freedom to score rather than just create we can score more goals.
Dom Dwyer could also act as a distraction to the opposing team's defense and use his runs to open up space for other teammates to aim at goal.
The team also needs to find a player who is capable of becoming a super substitute with goals on him. While Coleman would almost certainly start, he looks a good fit for an attacker that can come in the second half when the opponents' defense may have tired out and run through them with his tricky then scoring or assisting other teammates.
Another way we can score more goals this season would be to press opponents from the front. If our attackers can start pressing the opposing goalkeepers and defenders hard from the back, they would start making mistakes at the back that could lead to us scoring or it would also keep them too busy to launch attacks against us.
Players tasked with protecting the back five like Oriol Rosell have to be at their combative best at all times also to help protect the defense by breaking up oppositions play.
