20+ New South American players will be part of the MLS this 2018

February 7, 2018

A huge migration of footballers from South America is coming to the Major League Soccer for next campaign after 16 clubs from both conferences acquired them in this offseason.

Players from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay and Venezuela chose MLS as their next destination looking forward to compete and develop their capacities in a whole new environment.

In addition, one of the main aspects of this case is how young all these professional players are, having at least 14 guys under 23 years old and an average age of 21.57. However, most of them already have first division and international experience with their former clubs.

For instance, 18-year-old Argentinean Ezequiel Barco helped Independiente de Avellaneda win the Copa Sudamericana title by scoring three goals and making two assists in the tournament. On the other hand, 22-year-old Argentinean Emiliano Amor played +50 matches for Velez Sarsfield’s first team, becoming a regular in a high-level league.

In general, these are great news for MLS’ fans and clubs since they are receiving an enormous amount of skillful and talented players that will rise the league’s level while increasing competitiveness both internally and internationally (CONCACAF tournaments). Moreover, it’s very likely that most of these young guys become worldwide stars in a few years, influencing in a positive way the MLS image.
