Head coach Jason Kreis and CEO Alex Leitao talked in Orlando City media day and told many things related to the club, such as Cyle Larin’s saga, the new footballers and the upcoming season.
In general, Leitao and Kreis told they are looking forward to make a great campaign in this 4th season in MLS for the Lions, assuring this transfer window with lots of signings was planned in the end of last year. Moreover, bringing so many players to the squad made Leitao happy, even knowing it was a risky decision.
On the other hand, in a not-so-friendly mood, Alex Leitao assured this was the last time talking about Larin’s inconvenient and what happened in that particular case.
However, Orlando City CEO told the media Larin was a troublemaker and reproached his behavior. In addition, Kreis explained he wants footballers with a winning mentality and people that cares about the group, assuring Larin was affecting the Lions situation since last year.
Regarding the agreement with Montverde Academy, Leitao said it was an accord where the club is making a double investment that will bring a lot of benefits, including proper infrastructure and great youth development. In fact, with this deal Orlando City can offer young players scholarships and diverse positive upgrades that will improve their career.
It’s important to point out the youth academy of Montverde and Orlando City counts with former Venezuelan international Ricardo David Páez, as OrlandoLionsDen.com previously reported. With this incorporation, the Lions have experience and tactical knowledge assured on minor divisions, granting an exclusive early development.
Continuing with the new players signed in this offseason, Kreis accepted many of them were offense-oriented, however, the planning for this 2018 campaign included defensive reinforcements as well, pointing out all the left-backs, holding midfielders and center-backs that became part of the Lions a few days ago.
Regarding who will have the “leader role” in Orlando City, Kreis told the media he is watching the dynamic of the team to decide who will be captain, nevertheless, he is sure the squad counts with terrific candidates for that distinction.
Leitao explained the main purpose of all these moves is to go further and get a winning mentality, being playing as a team a key factor to reach this objective. On the other hand, changing a lot of players in a roster is nothing new to Kreis, since he, as a Real Salt Lake manager in 2007, transferred 20+ players in one season.
Apparently, Kreis won’t have a solid starting lineup since he will rotate it by the players performance and commitment. In fact, he told all the players are considered as important members of the club and it will be difficult to leave outside the roster some of them every single match-day.
In relation to Kaká, Leitao said he was an important role to make Orlando City popular and known all over the world.
However, the “best marketing is to win” the Lions CEO assured. On the other hand, Kreis declared Kaká was a great person and “always wanted to help lead the group”, moreover, pointed out it was not difficult to coach him because his amazing behavior.
