Saturday’s scrimmage against Jacksonville University its almost here and the Lions are getting everything ready for it, including the not-so-reinforced defense.
After two weeks of intense training with an offensive mindset, Jason Kreis’ squad started to improve the defensive tactics for this 2018, focusing on the main players in this sector of the field such as José Aja.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan is the only “pure” center-back of the team in the current roster, meaning he will have to lead the defense with his tactical positioning. However, Aja’s needs to improve his performances since last season he wasn’t part of the roster for the last 7 matches of MLS.
“We are training so hard in this second week, we keep working day by day”, Aja told on an interview. “Our goal is to be on the playoff but we know its game by game, so we need to keep working”, he added.
The Uruguayan started 15 matches last season having played 1.275’ minutes. Regarding his behavior on the pitch, he received 4 yellow cards and 1 red card by being booked twice in one match.
On the other hand, Libyan footballer Mohamed El-Munir just got to Orlando and will be joining the Lions camp trainings soon enough to be part of the squad before the first exhibition
game of the preseason. El-Munir alongside Uri Rosell and RJ Allen came this offseason to build the Lions backline and contribute to obtain the desired MLS title.
