The highly anticipated transfer is already here. The 27-year-old forward Sydney Leroux is now an Orlando Pride player after the club traded a first-round pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft for her.
The former Utah Royals FC was and anticipated trade since her husband, Dom Dwyer, became an Orlando City player last mid-season. They are the only professional couple to score goals for their respective clubs in the same campaign after they did it in 2017.
Tom Sermanni, head coach of Orlando pride, told he “is delighted to bring a player of Sydney’s caliber and pedigree to the Pride” on her trade announcement. “Sydney has a great work ethic, strong footballing skills and a wonderful personality that I know will fit in well with the team culture here in Orlando. We’re excited to add her to our already potent offensive force”, he added.
On the other hand, Niki Budalic, general manager of the club, told “she’s a dynamic striker that will bring pace and goal-scoring ability to our group. Her physicality and personality will complement our roster and club and look forward to having her with us.”
Regarding to her stats, she has scored 35 goals in 77 matches for U.S. Women National Team, being one of the best strikers so far. Last year she made 23 appearances and scored 6 goals for FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League before joining Utah Royals.
Orlando Pride will have a sensational front line with Alex Morgan, Brazilian superstar Marta and Sydney Leroux, which means a lot of goals will be scored and many great performances will be shown, hopefully enough to win the title.
